The temple is symbolized by a large ceramic statue of the Great Buddha’s head, which was built about 300 years ago.

Great Buddha’s head
The rare ceramic statue of Shakyamuni, which is only from the shoulders up, is said to have been built by Lord Mitsutomo Tokugawa, lord of Nagoya Castle, to mourn his late mother. Its height is approximately 2.5 m. The whereabouts of the figure from the chest down remain a mystery to this day. Originally enshrined in Nagoya Castle, it was dedicated to Fusenji Temple after the war.
Thatched roof
Fukusenji Temple is located on the Atami City side of the Chitose River, about 80 meters downstream from the Izumi Ohashi Bridge over the Chitose River.
This is the only thatched roof in Atami City.
It was rebuilt in 1875 and has a stately appearance.
